All of cheeses are handmade in Farmhouse Dairy in rural Lancashire. The surrounding fields are grazed by the cows who provide the milk, many of whom are looked after by extended family. The goat’s milk comes from just down the road. We believe Lancashire and the surrounding area in particular make such a big difference to the quality of the cheese, alongside, of course the skill and experience of the wonderful team of cheesemakers.

Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses combine traditional skills, love and innovation to create specialist and very different British hard, blue and soft cheeses with milk from their own cows and goats. There is no escaping it, being a family business is what makes things exciting and their family values are the bedrock of their culture. Richard and Annie started it, Jean and Tom nurtured it. Gill and Colin opened it and the history page is just turning for Matthew and Daniel.

Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses are proud of their heritage, their location and their independent status. The team and those involved come from all around the world and these ‘global’ ideas are what makes them interesting and forward thinking and work collectively to hand make cheeses that are truly British (and very delicious).
