York’s First Authentic Indian Cookery School – Sign up for a One-of-a-Kind Authentic Indian Culinary Experience with York Curry Queen- Sharmini.

Enjoy a fun  interactive and enjoyable Sharmini indian cooking day in York. Sharmini Thomas will guide you through the use of the key spices to create your own authentic Indian dishes. Understanding the mysteries of Indian Cuisine is in the proportion of ingredients used, the layering of spices and a keen sense of smell. Be ready to delve into the world of Indian cookery, pick up tips handed down from generations and taste your incredible dishes.

  • High quality, locally sourced ingredients and recipe sheets will be provided.
  • Introduction to Spices & learning to identify commonly used spices
  • ‘Step by step’ guidance through the preparation and cooking of all dishes

For Information: You will be working in pairs

Please bring

  • Take – away containers in case you want to take curries home too.
  •  Apron –You will need an apron or purchase Sharmini’s aprons at £15 each or hire @£5

Arrival:

  • 10.15 am-10.40am   Introduction to Spices
  • 10.45am -1.30pm     Demonstrations and Prepare your meal
  • 1.30pm – 2.00 pm     Lunch Break (enjoy the meal you prepared)
  • 2.00pm- 3.30 pm      Snack and chutney, Dessert (Demonstrated)
  • 3.30pm- 4.00/4.30pm.   Refreshments and tidy up

Sharmini Thomas, is a York-based Cookery Tutor who began conducting Indian Cooking Courses through City of York’s Adult Education over 20 years ago. In the year 2008, she started her own cookery school which conceptualized Sharmini’s Inspirational Indian Cuisine.

Sharmini’s broad expertise in Indian cuisine stems not only from her years of teaching but also from the rich culinary heritage that was passed down to her from her family. It comes as no surprise that her work has been recognised across the UK earning her the title of The Curry Queen” as quoted in the Sunday Times.

Sharmini Inspirational Cuisine delivers authentic Indian cookery classes, in the heart of York, where renowned chef Sharmini Thomas, has been delivering interactive indian cookery sessions for over 20 years and has continually received excellent recommendations and 5-star reviews.

It’s time to tantalise your taste-buds and open your mind to the magic of Indian cooking and discover the secrets that lay within the combination of ingredients, their proportions and the method of cooking. This authentic cookery class will teach you how to make some household favourites, that fit perfectly into your own dietary requirements and your lifestyle. In addition to being taught some fruitful facts about Indian culture, you’ll also get an introduction to Indian herbs & spices and get to smell some amazingly aromatic, freshly-ground spices.

So if you want to know when to use your Cardamom and when to hold your Cumin, get yourself booked on to this one-of-a-kind class – you won’t regret it! What you need to know:

  • High quality, locally sourced ingredients and recipe sheets will be provided.
  • A fully equipped kitchen is available but please bring your own knife if you prefer.
  • You will need an apron. You can bring your own apron, purchase Sharmini’s aprons at £15.00 each or hire one at £5.00.
  • Please bring some takeaway dishes to transport your food safely home.
  • Wear comfortable shoes – this is a full day class!
  • Free on-site parking is available.
