Description
Stool Making Weekend Hampshire for One person. This stool making course teaches you the basics of working with green wood and turning a tree into a stool in a weekend.
On Saturday you will explore the farm’s woodlands and learn about the past, present and future of the land and wildlife that surrounds the farm. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss the properties and potential of different wood types. You can then select your tree to be felled and then take the wood back with you.
Returning to the workshop you will be taught about the art of working with green wood, and given guidance as you split from the log and shape the components of your stool. You will enjoy a heart lunch and go to the village pub or bring your own barbecue food for dinner before relaxing round the bonfire (weather permitting).
On Sunday breakfast and lunch are provided. You accommodation is in a lone yurt in ancient woodland, shrouded in nature and off the grid. You will be able to hear the deer rustle through the brambles and watch the sunlight dapple the white, wood smoke rising through the trees.
After breakfast you will add the finishing touches to the woodwork and a then a hands on lesson in seat weaving using natural hemp. Accommodation is available onsite and payable at time of booking.

Rushmere Farm is on the west end of the South Downs National Park Area of Outstanding National Beauty. The easiest way to get here is to drive, but please do consider other options if possible, and if driving please aim to share with others. Rushmere Farm workshops are part of a diversification plan that will enable the farm to make the progression towards ecologically sustainable, community focused farming methods. By taking a relaxing rural break in the beautiful Hampshire countryside you are investing in a food system that has resilience, and an ecosystem of abundance. Furthermore a proportion of our income supports refugees and asylum seekers without work.
