Three hour Wildlife Photography Workshop Richmond Park Sunrise or Sunset

If you love getting out and about in nature, and want to learn how to capture beautiful wildlife photographs then look no further! This photography workshop – lead by professional wildlife, landscape and travel photographer Matthew Williams-Ellis – will teach you all you need to know!

During this 3 hour photography workshop, you will learn how to capture exciting, creative wildlife images through ‘in the field’ tutorials in front of the majestic Red and Fallow deer that call Richmond Park home. Matthew will  take you his favourite spots in the park for landscape photography (exactly where on the day will depend on the weather and if it is a sunrise or sunset shoot). With Silver Birch Tree copses, lone Oak Trees, fern gardens and lakes, there are plentiful subjects to ensure you will come away with beautiful images.

At the same time as learning the technical side of photography, you will talk  about the thought process of creating (not just taking) photos. Receive tips on composition, guide your photographic eye and help you develop a proactive photography mindset, ensuring you can apply your new found skills to any given situation when photographing in the future.

Wildlife photography:
Spend about half the session photographing the Red Deer and Fallow Deer, as well as heading to Pen Ponds to capture the wide array of bird life.

Landscape photography:
Focus on wider landscapes taking in the whole Richmond park vista, as well as heading to some of the smaller copses to capture more abstract landscape photographs in areas such as the Silver Birch forest and fern gardens.

Itinerary:
No two days are exactly the same, as photography is all about the light. Some locations suit cloudy days and others suit sunny days. In general though, the photography workshop runs as follows:

Meet: Richmond Gate (TW10 6JJ) and brief overview of the day

Subjects covered:

  • Tips and tricks for creative compositions
  • The importance of backgrounds in wildlife photography
  • Making the most of the available light
  • Focusing modes for pin sharp wildlife images
  • Histogram and the importance of exposing to the right
  • How to photograph wildlife respectfully
  • Story-telling and the art of photographing a single scene in many different ways
