Blacksmithing has been around for centuries, and it continues to forge on into the future as people carry on the long held traditions of this craft. Enjoy a half day of  blacksmithing for two, at a stunning forge in Herefordshire, can help relieve any stress, as you create unique objects from wrought iron or steel, by forging the metal, using tools to hammer, bend, and cut. 

Blacksmith Forging and Beer Tasting Experience – 3 Hours followed by Tour

  • Arrive 8:45am for 9am start
  • Introduction and safety briefing
  • Forge a bottle opener or cork screw to aid you in your tour experience
  • Learn the art of shaping iron into beautiful, bespoke pieces
  • Take home your bespoke masterpiece
  • Beer tasting & tour

You will make and design a piece of bespoke ironmongery, from the master craftsman who will show you some of their techniques and guide you through the four main stages of the blacksmithing process: Heating, Holding, Hitting and Shaping, which  goes into the forging of your masterpiece.

You can choose to visit the following;

Hillside Brewery – an exciting, family owned and run Gloucestershire brewery, built on traditional skills and values.

Weston’s Cider – traditional producers of award winning cider and perry draught and bottled products.

White Castle Vineyards – dedicated to producing a variety of quality welsh wines using first class viticultural practices.

Optional Lunch

The Old Forge is  specialist forge in the heart of Herefordshire, dedicated to teaching you traditional blacksmithing techniques to create unique ironmongery. Experience An Ancient Tradition Blacksmithing is an old and noble craft, using heat and hammer to forge practical or decorative ironmongery from raw iron. At The Academy, you can feel the power of creating your own sword, ring or other keepsake with your own hands.

Small Print

  • 9:00am – 12pm | 12:30 -3:30pm.
  • Must be 18 years or over
  • Monday to Saturday, excluding bank holidays (subject to availability).
  • Wear:
    Loose fitting cotton material is preferred.
    Ensure you cover your arms to protect them from radiated heat & sparks.
    Strictly no vests or short sleeved tops where skin is exposed
    No loose cuffs or torn clothing, as these can act as a snagging hazard.
    Shorts or skirts are also not permitted.
  • Leather aprons are provided.
